We understand there is a lot of excitement over our planned travel this summer to East Coast Championships in St. John's, Newfoundland!
Currently we are waiting for confirmation on the reopening of The Aquarena. While it was opened for Canada Games this past summer, it was closed to finish the renovations (we've also heard that they closed it to reinstall the waterslide) and is expected to reopen this month.
The current date for the competition is July 10-14, and it will be a 4-day competition with heats and finals each day. East Coast Championships is unique as there are heats and finals for the 12&U and everyone competes in the same sessions. We do plan to take qualified 12&U to the meet again this summer, as we have in previous years.
We would plan to fly to St. John's, and likely would arrive 1-2 days before the competition (depending on flight cost and availability). Ideally, we would like to stay at Memorial University and we will eat our meals in the cafeteria. Typically when we travel to East Coast Championships, we also plan a full day of unique activities after the meet and travel home the following day. This makes the trip 7-8 days long, again, depending on a lot of variables.
Once we receive confirmation that everything is a go, we will start to put together our travel plan and host a team meeting with everyone that is qualified. We are hopeful that we will be holding that meeting in early February so that you have ample time to make decisions regarding your swimmer(s) participation.
They also have some unique qualification rules for this meet and they are different by Age Group so you can read those in the meet file attached (This is for Spring 2026 and we assume that they are the same rules as the summer meet)
